Finger Lakes Wine Country Holiday Gift Guide, #3, #4, and #5 A Ride In The Sky

It's my opinion that giving the gift of experience is one of the best gifts you can give. Why not give the gift of experience and adventure to your loved ones this holiday season? Finger Lakes Wine Country has an incredible aviation history and with that, a ride high in the sky makes our list at numbers three, four, and five.
The National Soaring Museum atop Harris Hill offers visitors the chance to relive the history of soaring with detailed displays of gliders from the earliest models up to the most modern. In addition to realizing the incredible history, there is also the opportunity to take a glider ride. Give the gift that will leave your friend or family member speechless with wonder. For under $100, you cannot beat this incredible experience of motorless flight.

First Air offers helicopter rides over the Finger Lakes region. I admit I've never been in a helicopter, but everyone I have spoken to that has had this opportunity says that it's truly an exhilirating experience. You can contact the Mark Twain Country offices for further information.

Wings of Eagles Discovery Center offers rides in vintage warplane rides. This is the ideal gift for that history buff on your list. See the beautiful sights of Finger Lakes Wine Country while also experiencing history at it's finest. Wings of Eagles Discovery Center is also a wonderful place to visit to learn all about the history of flight during times of war.

A gift of flight over Finger Lakes Wine Country is certainly an experience that anyone receiving it will never forget.

Finger Lakes Wine Country Holiday Gift Guide, #2 Tickets to the Clemens Center in Elmira

You all have that person on your list that loves the theatre. The Clemens Center in Elmira has a great lineup of shows for their 2009-2010 Broadway Series. I know this is a gift I would LOVE to get (hint, hint - specifically Chicago and Beauty and the Beast!!). The Clemens Center is a beautiful facility that offers many different events beyond the Broadway series that will please most anyone in your life.

Every Monday night throughout the winter and into spring, they have a Comedy Club. These comedians are hysterical and you will likely see them on the comedy circuit across the country. I know this would make for a perfect gift for my boyfriend or even my parents. The Clemens Center also does monthly themed events, for instance I know they’re doing a Superbowl night and an Oscars night where they have food catered and a cash bar and actually broadcast the game or the award show on the big screen. There is also an array of music and dance performances and even Sesame Street Live for the little ones in your life. There is certainly an event for every member of your family at the Clemens Center in Elmira.

Finger Lakes Wine Country Holiday Gift Guide, #1 Wine Tasting Experience

While the holiday season is certainly fun and exciting, there is always that one part that tends to be a bit stressful: holiday shopping. Now I love to shop, but even I get stumped now and again trying to find that perfect gift for the ones I love. This year, I am going to do my best to shop local and give gifts that are unique to Finger Lakes Wine Country. Over the next couple weeks we’re going to give you some great ideas for holiday gifts that everyone will love.

To kickoff our Finger Lakes Wine Country Holiday Gift Guide for 2009, we’ll start with the ultimate way to give your loved ones the gift of the Finger Lakes. Now you could just give a case of Finger Lakes wine, but I urge you to go one step further and get a gift certificate to a transportation company like Quality Wine Tours, Silk Limousine, or Grapevine Country Tours. All of these companies (and there are many more listed in our database) offer Wine Tasting Tours throughout Finger Lakes Wine Country. And here’s the best part: give your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, best friend - - whoever, this gift and I can almost promise you you’ll get to tag along! What's a better gift than time together? So thoughtful, so sweet, it's perfect!

So here it is. Buy a gift certificate from a transportation company of your choice. Then, pick up some brochures if you’re local, or give our office a call at 800-813-2958 and we can send you Wine Trail brochures and our Travel Guide.  Then put the brochures and the gift certificate in a basket with a bottle of Finger Lakes Wine and there you have it, you’re giving your loved one the ultimate Finger Lakes Wine Country experience with some extra thought and planning. Want to really impress them? Get a gift certificate to the hotel, inn, or bed and breakfast of your choice and give them an entire Finger Lakes Wine Country Weekend. They're bound to love it!

Check out the 14 foot Glass Ornament Tree at The Corning Museum of Glass

I visited The Corning Museum of Glass last night to see the 14 foot tall Glass Ornament Tree. It's quite a spectacle! Everyone was in awe of this amazing work of art. We had a great time at 2300 Degrees, an open house the Museum hosts the third Thursday of every month November thorugh May. Here's a peak at the tree, but trust me when I say you have to see it in person.

The tree goes on display Thursday evening during the 2300° free event.

In addition to the tree, Glittering Traditions includes Make Your Own Glass Ornaments, a Holiday Open House the first weekend in December, a Holiday Hunt throughout the galleries, Glittering Holiday Gifts in The GlassMarket and the amazing after Thanksgiving sale. And finally, come view the latest glass exhibit of Tiffany’s favrile glass from rarely seen collections.
